Recently, the Intellectual Property Prosecution Department of the People's Procuratorate of Beijing Municipality was officially established. With the approval of the Organization Establishment Committee of the Municipal Party Committee upon research and submission, the Fourth Prosecution Department of the People's Procuratorate of Beijing Municipality has been additionally branded as the "Intellectual Property Prosecution Department". As an internal institution specially responsible for intellectual property prosecution work, the Intellectual Property Prosecution Department is mainly tasked with handling intellectual property-related prosecution cases under the jurisdiction of the People's Procuratorate of Beijing Municipality.
Its core functions are as follows: to exercise centralized and unified prosecution duties in criminal, civil, administrative and public interest litigation cases involving intellectual property rights; to undertake business guidance, comprehensive coordination, theoretical research, digital prosecution, crime prevention and social comprehensive governance of intellectual property prosecution work across the city; to take the lead in guiding procuratorial organs of the whole city to participate in the construction of the municipal-level intellectual property protection system, and strengthen communication and collaboration with relevant departments.
The official establishment of the Intellectual Property Prosecution Department of the People's Procuratorate of Beijing Municipality fully reflects the great importance attached by the Municipal Party Committee to Beijing's procuratorial work and intellectual property protection, marking that the judicial protection of intellectual property rights in the capital has entered a new stage of professional and comprehensive development.
As the national center for politics, culture, international exchanges and scientific and technological innovation, Beijing boasts a wealth of innovation resources and shoulders a heavy responsibility for intellectual property protection. In recent years, under the strong leadership of the Municipal Party Committee and the Supreme People's Procuratorate, procuratorial organs in Beijing have been deepening intellectual property prosecution work in accordance with the "benchmark standards", taking the lead in exploring the comprehensive performance of duties in intellectual property prosecution nationwide and achieving remarkable results.
Since entering the high-quality development stage in 2021, procuratorial organs across the city have handled 4,266 intellectual property cases of various types, including the nation's first criminal case of infringing the copyright of the image of the mascot of the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games. They have won national honors such as the "China Copyright Gold Award" issued by the National Copyright Administration and the World Intellectual Property Organization, with 17 cases selected as national typical cases, providing strong judicial guarantee for serving the construction of Beijing's "Four Centers" and supporting the development of new quality productive forces.
The establishment of the Intellectual Property Prosecution Department of the People's Procuratorate of Beijing Municipality is a key step in deepening the comprehensive protection of intellectual property rights and improving the professional organizational system.
